James H. Barton, MD, DDS

Meet Dr. Barton

Dr. Barton is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He grew up in Bountiful, Utah and graduated from the University of Utah, majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry.  For dental school he was accepted to the highly competitive RDEP training/scholarship program. After completing his first year of dental school at the University of Utah, School of Medicine, he finished his dental school at Creighton University, where he graduated with honors.  During this time he earned several awards for excellent performance in Oral Surgery, Oral Radiology, and general academic achievement. Although membership is generally reserved for practicing dentists, as a senior dental student Dr. Barton was inducted into the national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon.

Following dental school, Dr. Barton entered one of the nations top residency and medical training programs at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Not only did he train in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery and received his medical degree, but he also completed an internship in General Surgery including training in Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Transplant Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Head and Neck Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Emergency Medicine, and Anesthesia. During this time Dr. Barton was able to travel to Mexico twice to perform cleft lip and palate surgery on children who were unable to receive care elsewhere.

After ten years of post graduate training Dr. Barton moved to Bozeman, Montana in 2005 with his family. He acquired Big Sky Oral and Facial Surgery and practiced successfully for 11 years. He became a highly respected and recognized leader in the care of oral and facial surgery patients.

In 2016 Dr. Barton and his family made the move to Richfield, Utah to be closer to family, and enjoy all that this area has to offer. His wife, Regina, grew up here and they have always loved Richfield. We want to bring the same high level of care to this area that we provided our patients in Montana.

Dr. Barton has been married to his sweetheart, Regina, since 1990.  They have five children and three dogs. It is a busy but happy household. They enjoy hiking, biking, camping, hunting, motocross, and generally spending time together.  Due to having spent two years in a church service mission in Mexico City, Dr. Barton speaks fluent Spanish. He also volunteers in church, Boy Scouts, Community homeless assistance programs, Community kitchens, and youth sports. He is a past President of the local chapter of the American Dental Association, and is a past President of the Montana chapter of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He has also been elected as a Fellow in the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Barton is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and Diplomate of the Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, as well as a member of the American Dental Association.
